Milford FC produced a major upset by eliminating Sekhukhune United to reach the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The match finished 2-2 after 120 minutes, but the KwaZulu-Natal side held their nerve in the penalty shootout to secure a 3-2 victory and book a historic place in the last four.
Milford made a dream start when Cheswyn Philander fired the visitors ahead in the fourth minute.
However, Sekhukhune responded quickly, with Lehlohonolo Mojela equalising just six minutes later to level the score.
The match remained evenly balanced for long periods, with neither side able to break the deadlock during regulation time.
Sekhukhune eventually regained the lead in extra time when Olerato Mandi found the net in the 106th minute, seemingly putting the Premier Division side on course for victory.
But Milford refused to give up and struck back with just five minutes remaining in extra time as Sibulele Mekuto scored a dramatic equaliser to force a penalty shootout.
Milford missed one of their early spot-kicks when the effort struck the post, but they ultimately held their composure, with captain and goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza converting the decisive penalty to seal the win
