When Milford FC bought the status of fellow KwaZulu-Natal based team and Motsepe Foundation Championship side, Uthongathi FC, many were surprised as the move was a bit of a bolt from the blue.
With both clubs coming from the same province, talks of a possible move were not too popular across the two football clubs, possibly due to logistics not being too vast as in club sales across different provinces..
UThongathi FC staff members were told during a meeting held on a Friday that the club will be relocating to Richards Bay.
The club from the North Coast had been rumored to be sold for the past three seasons, however, nothing had materialised.
At some stage it was alleged that the football team was on the verge of relocating to the Eastern Cape but the deal collapsed at the last minute.
Milford FC on the other hand looked to become a breath of fresh air into the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
After all contractual legalities were concluded, the club sale was successfully completed which resulted in Milford Football Club becoming a National First Division football team in the Premier Soccer League.
